Eight years ago, Ghinwa* and her family fled the war in Syria for a refugee camp in Lebanon. When her father suffered a severe stroke, Ghinwa couldn’t go back to school. She had to support her family by selling packs of tissues at a busy Beirut junction.
But for Ghinwa, another crossroads was just around the corner...
THE VERY FIRST MOMENTS
Alice Sumo delivered her first baby 30 years ago, in the crossfire of Liberia’s civil war. She warned off attackers and used a broken bottle to cut the umbilical cord. Alice is a superstar; a Save the Children-trained midwife who, through violence, Ebola, and personal tragedy, has devoted herself to helping women in her community experience that moment - looking into their baby’s eyes for the first time.

MOMENTS OF SHEER JOY
When Domaac’s* village in South Sudan was attacked by an armed group, he fled for his life, not knowing whether his mum and brother were alive or dead. He was 10.
After three weeks on the run, Domaac reached a safe village and was taken in by a family. He started going to school, but people say he was isolated, introverted and tearful.

We create safe spaces for children in refugee camps and disaster zones where they can play, learn, make friends, and start to process traumatic experiences.
We support children to speak out about the injustices they face and to push for change.
We do it all because every child – no matter where they’re born – deserves a fair chance at the future they deserve.
